Somerville RMT Email: jennysomerville@albertahealthinstitute.ca Jenny Somerville is a Registered Massage Therapist in both Alberta and British Columbia. She graduated from the 3000 hr program at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in Vancouver BC in 2007. She is trained in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and dysfunction. Jenny’s practice incorporates a variety of modalities including myofascial release, deep tissue massage, cranial sacral therapy, spinal and regional orthopedics, lymphatic drainage, and deep relaxation techniques. Jenny has extensive experience in treating the following conditions: motor vehicle accidents, work related injuries, sprains and strains, postural dysfunction, general muscle tension, overuse injuries, sports injuries, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, circulatory and respiratory dysfunction, multiple sclerosis, brain injuries, temporomandibular joint dysfunction , stress related pain and dysfunction and pre and post-natal pain and dysfunction. Jenny is an athlete who enjoys skate-skiing, downhill skiing, mountain biking, running, hiking and yoga. These activities give her a great understanding of the body’s biomechanics and help provide the knowledge and understanding needed to help her patients reach their potential. Most importantly she loves what she does and feels very lucky to have a career where she can help people reach their health and wellness goals. She hopes to see you soon! Jenny believes that the body is designed with a great capacity to restore itself to health. When trauma, stress, over-use, nutritional deficiencies or disease processes overcome the body's ability to restore balance, dysfunction and pain occurs. Through individual assessment and dialogue, the client and therapist work together to find the root cause of dysfunction and therefore help with the long term resolution of pain. A unique feature of Jenny's practice is her team approach to healing. She believes that the client is best served when the body's own healing process is used to dictate the type of therapy applied at each stage of recovery. Synergizing the expertise of AHI's team of massage therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractor, certified fitness trainer, naturopath and nutritional advisors provides the client with the broadest possible base for successful healing. The client is encouraged to allow their own physiotherapist to open dialogue with the team to augment their treatments. Jenny specializes in therapeutic treatments, deep tissue, pre-natal and relaxation massage. She is experienced in working with postural dysfunction, repetitive stress syndromes, injury rehabilitation, chronic pain syndromes, low back pain, sprains, strains, headaches, muscle tension, tendonitis, TMJ dysfunctions and general wellness care. She is strongly committed to working with clients to achieve optimal health. A life long interest in the functioning of the human body began with the study of anatomy, physiology, pathology and pre-paramedic emergency medical intervention. Areas of continued study include further work in myofascial release, trigger point therapy, clinical assessment and intervention, deep tissue techniques and the effects of nutrition on the health of the body.
Jenny welcomes appointments on Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesday
and Friday.
